Life has a funny way of reminding us that we may not always be able to control what we experience or how we feel. These moments of ambiguity can often feel overwhelming, exhausting, and paralyzing to many people—myself included. What we can certainly control, however, is what we choose to do in these moments. It is my own experiences with uncertainty and adversity that motivated me to pursue a career in counselling.
If you are reading this, it’s probably because you are thinking about making a change for yourself by seeking professional help. Even if you remain undecided on whether you are ready to take this step, I would like to commend you for your courage as you entertain this idea. Seeking help, especially for the first time, can be scary. Naturally, talking to a total stranger about yourself may create a fear of being judged or misunderstood.
As a therapist, my aim is to alleviate these fears and create a safe space so that you may feel supported and understood as you embark on your journey toward self-improvement. I am someone who is warm, gentle, and compassionate. I believe in treating everybody with respect and dignity, which is why throughout my education and professional experience, I have developed skills in addressing diversity (e.g., socio-economic status, culture, gender, sexual orientation, marginalization, etc) and its intersectionality with mental health challenges in a counselling setting. I am also continuously engaging in continuing education, not solely to ensure that my skills are up to date, but also because I genuinely love to learn.
I have years of experience working with a diverse group of individuals experiencing a variety of psychological concerns. I am passionate about my practice, and I seek to work in a collaborative manner with my clients. Once we meet, we will work at your own pace to identify your strengths and create goals; we will also explore the feelings, thoughts, and behaviours that may be causing you emotional pain; and we will discuss new ways of managing your distress, thereby improving your overall well-being.
I provide play therapy and counselling to support children, adolescents, and adults through their emotional pain and behavioural concerns. I also support couples by identifying cognitive or behavioural patterns that may be wounding their relationships. I work with couples using a strength-focused approach to improve communication skills and conflict resolution skills to increase the couple’s emotional and physical intimacy. Whether it’s with children, teens, or adults, I work hard to help my clients feel empowered and hopeful about their futures.
Counselling Psychology:
I provide counselling to children, adolescents, adults, and couples experiencing in distress. I have experience treating concerns related to ADHD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, substance abuse, anger, and relationships.
I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Gottman’s Couples Counselling, and Emotion-Focused Therapy. I understand that we all experience life differently, which is why my approach to counselling is customized to fit your needs.
My clinical practice at TPS is supervised by Jancy King M.Ed., C. Psych. Assoc., a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. As such, all or most of your fees may be covered by your workplace benefits.
